The Oregon Public Library District is seeking to fill the position of Adult Programming Librarian. The ideal candidate has knowledge of programming and makerspace trends, general library operations, can work the circulation desk, and assist patrons with makerspace equipment, readers’ advisory, and reference inquiries. This position also requires assisting patrons with technology. 

_Essential Duties: _

  1. Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate library programs and outreach to adult patrons.

  2. Plan and present programs that respond to the educational and recreational needs and interests of adult patrons.

  3. Select and schedule outside performers for adult programs. 

  4. Develop and manage the annual summer reading program for adults. 

  5. Communicate and cooperate effectively with the park district, community colleges, nursing homes, and other local/community organizations that serve adults. 

  6. Collaborate with all library departments to enhance library services and implement library-wide projects and inter-generational programs. 

  7. Contribute to merchandising, marketing, social media, and PR efforts for adult services.

  8. Advise the Director regarding long-term needs, improvements, and innovations in services and materials for adults. 

  9. Assist with planning, implementation, and training of makerspace technology.

  10.  Participates in routine meetings for the coordination of library programs, collections, and services to adults. 

  11.  Participates in professional development and networking activities both online and in person. 

  12.  Assist with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Experience: 1-3 years of library experience in a public library. Event-planning experience is desirable. 

  2. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; LTA certification highly desired. 

  3. Skills: Microsoft Office, email, research, familiarity with web-based searching and applications, knowledge of general library operations, comfortable working with the public. The ideal candidate will have organizational and workflow-development skills. They will also understand the importance of teamwork in a small, rural library. 

Physical Demands:

  • Individuals may need to sit or stand for extended periods. Manual dexterity to manipulate library materials required. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist, or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the work day. Ability to do repetitive tasks with speed and accuracy. Employees may need to carry, push, pull, or lift bins weighning as much as 50 pounds.
