**Hours/week: ** This is a full-time position which requires 37.5 hours/week; schedule includes mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Salary:  A range of $20 to $22 per hour; offers made within this range are based on competencies, experience, and internal pay equity

**Description: ** The Villa Park Public Library seeks a versatile, service-oriented person to become our new Youth Services Librarian. We are looking for someone who is friendly, organized, and excited about working with patrons of all ages. They must be an energetic self-starter who functions well both independently and as part of a group.  Strong technology skills are essential, as is a strong work ethic. Crucially, the Youth Services Librarian works to model a love of stories, books, learning, and exploring for all ages.

Job duties:

  • Coordinate, plan, and implement programs, resources, and services in Youth Services
  • Common service desk duties include: answering reference questions, readers’ advisory services, providing computer and device support/troubleshooting, checking items in and out, assisting patrons with accounts, and program registration
  • Assist patrons of all ages with identifying and locating materials
  • Provide instructional support and troubleshooting for use of the library’s public technology and electronic resources, including gaming computers for Youth
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of physical and virtual book displays, book lists, book reviews and other promotional materials
  • Collect daily statistics and prepare monthly departmental statistical information to submit to Administration in a timely manner
  • Drive the outreach van in the community
  • Assist at Adult Services Desk as needed
  • Serve as a Passport Acceptance Agent

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university.

  • Competency in Microsoft Office products required.

  • High level of proficiency using Internet, email, online searching, and Windows operating systems in a desktop computing environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well in English, both orally and in writing, required.

  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License required.

  • One year or more of library experience involving work with the public preferred.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with Spanish language skills.
