**SUMMARY: **Young Adult Clerk (YAC) assists the Information Services Department Head (ISDH) with the planning and conducting of services for young adults.  [Young adults are defined as children grades seven through twelve.]

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works with the Information Services manager to set long range goals for YA Department.
  • Acquisitions include the selecting books and audio/visual materials of interest to Young Adults. 
  • Reader’s Advisory requires assisting Young Adults in selecting materials for school projects and leisure reading. 
  • YA marketing material to promote department. Including, but not limited to, digital and print handouts, posters, slides
  • Plans, coordinates and facilitates Young Adult (YA) activities and events. 
  • Develop teen groups
  • Participate in various community outreach events that include YA. 
  • Attend staff/dept. meetings, as well as webinars and conferences to assist in developing programs to stimulate reading and develop communication skills.

**QUALIFICATIONS: **Must be able to communicate affectively with young adults. Must be computer literate with knowledge of word processing with prior job-related computer experience.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

**EDUCATION: **High school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor of Arts preferred but not required

EXPERIENCE:  One to two years related experience working with young adults preferred. 

**LANGUAGE SKILLS: **Must have good verbal and written skills. Ability to speak effectively before groups of young adults, parents and teachers.  Ability to speak Spanish a plus.

**LICENSES: ** Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a licensed vehicle to travel to meetings, schools and workshops.

MEETINGS:  YAC will attend all staff meetings and other related workshops (with Director approval)
