Description

The Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering at IU Indianapolis (IUI) invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Library and Information Science (LIS). The appointment will begin August 1, 2025, on the IUI campus. Exceptional researchers are being sought to support a new PhD program in Information Science as well as the campus’ transition to an R1 institution. The LIS Department has an undergraduate data science program, collaborates on graduate data science initiatives, and has an ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree program delivered through online methods.

An area of special interest is Community Informatics, including community archives, community health, and community data. We are also interested in the use of artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies and methods (e.g., Big Data, machine learning, analytics, data visualization) as applied to the aforementioned areas. Additionally, we are interested in community-based or application-driven scholars who seek to integrate research strategies with real world problems.

The department collaborates closely with the Departments of Computer Science, Human Centered Computing, and Biomedical Engineering and Informatics. All departments focus on the application of technology to address information and societal needs.

The ideal candidate is pursuing a forward-looking and innovative research agenda with high potential for obtaining significant external research funding prior to tenure. Ideal candidates will use creative, innovative approaches and technologies to address fundamental information challenges with broad societal impact, thereby strengthening or complementing existing faculty in the department and school. Candidates will have the potential to leverage the strengths of the IUI campus, including its unique location in downtown Indianapolis, interdisciplinary and collaborative environment and nation-wide leadership in the health and life sciences. The IUI campus values civic engagement.

As the state’s premier urban research institution, IU Indianapolis is committed to being a welcoming and inclusive campus community. We seek candidates who will pursue the highest standards of academic excellence and whose research, teaching, and community engagement efforts contribute to welcoming, respectful, and inclusive learning and working environments for our students, staff, and faculty.
