Truman State University is seeking a collaborative, innovative, and service-oriented individual for the position of Head of Technical Services and Systems at Pickler Memorial Library. This position provides leadership, management, and strategic direction for all Technical Services operations including Acquisitions, Cataloging, Materials Processing, Serials/e-Resource management, and Library systems administration. This is full-time, benefits eligible position with some evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership, direction, and management of the Technical Services & Systems department and coordinate policies and procedures related to departmental functions. Review licenses for electronic resources.
  • Supervise, train, and participate in hiring and evaluation of staff and student workers; provide training and documentation support for Technical Services policies and procedures, library systems functions, and MOBIUS quality control requirements.
  • Coordinate upgrades of hardware and software for library systems, including the library services platform (FOLIO), discovery platform (EBSCO EDS), bibliographic utility (OCLC Connexion/Worldshare), and others. 
  • Oversee cataloging of library materials and catalog database maintenance; coordinate acquisitions functions, including both firm orders and subscriptions, for collection resources in all formats.
  • Assist the Dean with acquisitions planning and budgeting and generate statistical and informational reports, including electronic usage reports and acquisitions budget reports.
  • Keep abreast of developments in technology and librarianship; incorporate innovative technology to improve technical services functions and advise on special library technology projects. Attend professional conferences and/or user group meetings as appropriate.
  • Serve on Library, University, and MOBIUS committees as needed and represent the Library at MOBIUS membership meetings as appropriate. May serve as collection development specialist and liaison to discipline(s).
  • Reports to the Dean of Libraries and Museums and serves as a member of the library’s leadership team, contributing to overall library administration, policy development, and strategic planning.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master of Library Science and/or Information Science from an ALA accredited program.
  • Minimum three years of experience with integrated library systems administration and technical services functions, including acquisitions, cataloging, resource management, and serials.
  • Advanced knowledge of cataloging principles, practices, and standards such as RDA, MARC21, LCSH, and LCC.
  • Knowledge of authority work and experience using metadata management tools. 
  • Experience in a supervisory role including hiring, training, and evaluating staff and setting goals and priorities.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Strong service orientation and the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to adapt to changing technological environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in an academic library. 
  • Experience working with the FOLIO library Systems Platform.
