Technology Consultant

The Dowdell Library of South Amboy seeks a qualified and self-motivated individual who is experienced with networks, servers, wireless systems and web design. This role involves regular interaction to understand the library’s technology needs, and assists in strategic IT planning. He/she reports to the Director and develops solutions to ensure a timely and effective resolution.

Basic Responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain all servers, desktops, laptops, Chromebooks, iPads and other technology peripherals.
• Provide the technical assistance necessary to ensure the maintenance of desktops, LAN/WAN, and telecommunications for the library.
• Provide network design, support and security; including data backup strategies.
• Troubleshoot hardware configuration issues, malfunctioning equipment, and networking connection issues.
• Ensure the security of all data and systems within the local network.
• Maintain the library’s website and contribute to the management of its social media 
• Research and recommend emerging technology for adoption by the library; advise the Director on current trends in technology and makes suggestions for improvements and innovations.
• Act as the liaison to the Stella Consortium and NJ State Library if technology issues arise; coordinate with vendors when requested by the Director.
• Maintain records of IT assets and system configurations. 

Qualifications/Requirements: Strong technical knowledge of Windows and server environments. Experience as a MSP – Microsoft Certified Professional with a proven record of five years’ hands-on experience with networking hardware, firewalls and web design. Steadfast troubleshooting, problem-solving, and personal communication skills required.
