The Lending Services Stacks and Circulation Coordinator (Technical Library Assistant) position at Cheng Library requires high level critical thinking skills, demonstrated expertise with Microsoft Office applications, web application skills, and adeptness with software and other technology-based applications. The role requires supervision and technical work associated with stack maintenance for the library's print and media collections, Circulation activities and supervision, and assistance with building maintenance.

The Stacks and Circulation Coordinator:

  • Supervises aspects of the integrated library system, staffs the Lending Desk, and maintains borrower files; Provides assistance to Library users, including checking materials in and out, and collecting fines, responding to inquiries for information in person, by phone, and email, and referring inquiries as needed; Maintains book stacks, assists in the planning and organization of book collections, creates and maintains statistical records; Trains and supervises student assistant and part time workers; Serves as the Saturday evening supervisor for the Lending Services department, overseeing all operations including closing procedures, and supervision of student and part time workers during the shift.
  • During the week, coordinates with the Student Supervisor and Evening Supervisor training, workflows, and special projects on a daily basis; schedules and supervises student and part time workers and oversees Lending Desk operations.
  • Plans and leads projects and assignments and prepares training materials to help student assistants and part time workers perform technical tasks during their shifts on and off the desk. Oversees keeping shelving backlogs to a minimum.
  • Assesses library materials for damage, makes necessary repairs, identifies issues with library materials that need to be brought to the cataloger's attention, identifies areas and spaces that need library materials such as books, media or furniture to be shifted or moved and organizes the process.
  • Monitors and tracks all facility issues in coordination with Evening Supervisor and office of the Dean, provides an accurate list of issues affecting the building and their specific location, and provides summary of building conditions in monthly report.
  • Prepares and supervises the preparation of reports and summaries; generates and manages reports using Alma analytics for ongoing stack maintenance projects; works with the Resource Management unit and librarian selectors to plan for weeding, shifting, and shelving of new or gift materials; maintains statistics and keeps accurate files, including promptly updating the bibliographic database.
  • Answers or refers questions; negotiates, solves or refers complaints received from patrons, staff or vendors; resolves issues concerning lost or damaged library materials; uses the University's enterprise system to apply or remove holds and blocks; processes cash or check payments for lost or damaged library items; communicates policies and procedures with patrons.
  • Utilizes social media platforms as a marketing tool to promote library services, booking spaces and programs; generates audiovisual content and print signs to communicate changes in services, hours of operation and other necessary information.
  • Comprehends, interprets and implements library policies and procedures; works with Information Technology to identify and resolve emerging issues with the integrated library system that affect patrons.
  • Communicates with all members of the department about workflow, designs informational materials relative to the 2nd floor circulating collections, and assists with the planning and revising of clerical procedures and department routines.Required Qualifications:
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation.
  • Ability to perform detailed, accurate work with little to no supervision.
  • Intermediate level computer skills or higher.
  • Ability to learn and use integrated library software.
  • Availability for the advertised time schedule.Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Library experience preferred.
  • Flexibility to work extra hours on an as-needed basis.Schedule:

Semester hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 12:00 - 8:00 PM.

CWA Salary Range 17 - $51,987.70 - $73,257.92
