The Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library is looking for a seasonal, part-time Summer Book Bike Assistant to join our Community Engagement team.

Are you looking for an engaging and active summer job that allows you to spend time outdoors? Are you interested in community engagement and increasing access to library materials and services? We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is adaptive, friendly, and enjoys providing an exceptional customer service experience to community members.

Our Summer Book Bike Assistant will have the opportunity to circulate library materials and support outreach activities across the community of Brookfield in a variety of settings using The Title Wave, our electric assist book bike.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Riding The Title Wave book bike to various locations across the Village of Brookfield for outdoor, in-person engagement. Locations include: community parks, schools, local businesses, the Brookfield Farmers Market, local events, block parties, and/or senior centers;
• Circulating library materials and creating new library card accounts using a mobile checkout system;
• Providing exemplary customer service by answering questions, being an attentive listener, and engaging with community members inside and outside of the library;
• Stocking and unloading library materials on/off the book bike;
• Co-facilitating and supporting outdoor storytime visits and other pop-up activities;
• Documenting engagement data regarding outreach impact and book bike outings;
• When capacity allows, supporting other Community Engagement initiatives and services, such as assisting with our Home Delivery Service, staffing special library events, and/or facilitating library-wide initiatives like the Summer Reading Challenge.

Ideal Candidates Will:

• Be comfortable riding an e-assist bike on the streets within Brookfield village limits;

• Have a flexible schedule with weekend and weekday availability;

• Enjoy interacting with the public;

• Have excellent written and spoken communication skills;

• Have experience with or knowledge of library resources, services, and impact;

• Be comfortable working outdoors for several hours at a time;

• Be able to work independently and collaboratively;

• Have reliable transportation to/from the library.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Proficiency with current technology with a willingness to learn more.

• Previous customer experience preferred.

• Experience with children a plus.

• Bilingual Spanish/English language skills a plus.

• Ability to ride a loaded cargo e-assist tricycle for up to 5 miles in a day. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

• Ability to follow and model safety recommendations regarding bicycle safety and rules of the road.

Details:

This is a part-time, 14-week position which runs from May to September. The Book Bike Assistant will work a flexible schedule of 15 hours per week between $17-$19 per hour. This includes weekend and weekday hours.
