Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Specialist II, Library assists students, faculty and the general public in obtaining resources. Circulates library materials and maintains patron records using automated systems and iStar (PeopleSoft). May perform standard and some advanced administrative duties, including but not limited to receiving and logging information, making copies, sorting and distributing mail, preparing basic correspondence, answering routine questions and inquires, providing information and directions, and providing a customer friendly environment. Interprets and enforces established library policies and procedures. Responsible for specialized service/area within library.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Uses automated systems and iStar (PeopleSoft) to perform circulation services
2. Provides information and assistance to library visitors, serving as public contact for the library in person, by telephone and email, and referring patrons to reference librarians when additional assistance is needed
3. Participates in the daily supervision and training of student assistants and part time staff
4. Participates in the development of documentation for circulation procedures
5. Collects money for fines and updates patron records
6. Assists library patrons in the use of copy machines, audiovisual equipment and digital microform reader printers
7. Receives, sorts and distributes mail and courier deliveries as assigned
8. Interprets and enforces circulation policies and procedures for the public and for college staff
9. Responsible for operation of the Circulation Department in the absence of the Circulation Coordinator
10. Maintains supplies and forms needed for the daily operation of the Department
11. Participates in shelf reading, collection inventory project and facilities monitoring
12. Responsible for one or more of the following specialized functions:
    1. Web page design/maintenance
    2. Equipment maintenance
    3. Specialized library area maintenance - periodicals/reserves/legal documents
    4. Usage reports/statistics/record tracking
13. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assignedKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

WORKING SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

• Equipment used includes,PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
• Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
• Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazardsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experiencePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Hiring salary range is $31,200 - $35,880

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
