JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Senior Reference Service Specialist supports the activities of the Research and Learning Services (RLS) Department of the Health Sciences Library.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinates with the library's Communication Specialist to communicate and advertise department news.
  2. Stay current with emerging technologies.
  3. Supports department faculty with digital design utilizing applications, i.e., Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, and Microsoft Office.
  4. Instructs and assists patrons in the use of electronic resources and occasionally print materials.
  5. Provide instructional support to department faculty.
  6. Assists with library orientation tours for new students and faculty.
  7. Assists department head with the development of user surveys and needs assessments.
  8. Assists Communications Coordinator with library promotional activities.
  9. Staff the information desk as needed.
  10. Performs other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED (Bachelor's Degree Preferred) (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in an office or customer-orientated environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with diverse clientele in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to articulate and communicate professionally, both in person and in writing.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks/projects.
  • Ability to prioritize while adhering to deadlines.
  • Ability to operate both independently and as part of a team in a rapidly changing environment.
