Description

Metro State University, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, is seeking to hire a Research and Student Success Librarian. This is a full-time, probationary position within the Library and Information Services Department to start August 18, 2025.

Responsibilities of the Research and Student Success Librarian:

  • In collaboration with colleagues across the Library, provides overall direction for the Library’s student success initiatives and promotes ways the Library can serve as an essential partner in student success.
  • Cultivates strong working relationships and collaborates with units that support student success and the university’s diverse communities by serving as the Library’s primary liaison to the Center for Accessibility Resources (CAR), TRIO programs, and Multicultural, American Indian, and Retention Services (MAIR).
  • Provides research support to incarcerated students enrolled in Metro State’s Transformation and Reentry Through Education and Community (TREC) Program.
  • Develops relationships and partnerships with student organizations.
  • Coordinates library events and workshops for students related to student success, retention, and completion that promote Library use.
  • Coordinates with Library faculty and staff to design equity-informed library initiatives and collaborates with library and university colleagues involved in high-impact practices (HIP) that support student retention and completion.
     

Faculty members are expected to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to provide library and information services effectively to a post-traditional student population.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study.
  • Contribute to student growth and development through assistance.
  • Engage in service to the university and community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science earned no later than August 18, 2025.
  • Experience providing reference/research support and instruction.
  • Effective communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently in an institution with a culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse workforce and student population.
     

Preferred Qualification 

  • Experience centering, collaborating with, or advocating for underrepresented communities.
  • Teaching or instruction experience, whether in a library or other educational setting.
  • Experience serving as a liaison in an academic library.
  • Experience working with undergraduate students.
  • Experience planning or implementing programs or events in a library or higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice and how they relate to the mission of the Metro State.
