Position summary:

The Reference Manager will positively represent Middle Georgia Regional Library with professionalism through demeanor, appearance, and interactions with the public and other staff members. The Reference Manager will lead an enthusiastic and committed staff of paraprofessionals in fulfilling the Library’s mission “to connect all people to the information necessary to improve their lives through excellent services and materials.”

The ideal candidate for the Reference Manager position is a team-builder with a modern vision of libraries. This leader will manage daily reference department operations at Mary Vinson Memorial Library. Of utmost importance is exceptional patron service and commitment to effective library service.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Current knowledge of library trends
  • Exceptional customer service skills and initiative
  • Computer and internet skills
  • Technical operational knowledge of and a willingness to learn applications of technology
  • Enthusiasm
  • Capability to work collaboratively and as a team player with colleagues
  • Strong work ethic and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and follow through in a timely manner

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversees registration of patrons, charging and discharging of library materials, organization of incoming materials, and distribution of materials to appropriate areas.
  • Supervises collection and accounting of fines and fees collected by the circulation area.
  • Resolves patron complaints.
  • Prepares handouts and directional displays, and furnishes information on library activities, facilities, rules, and services.
  • Assembles and arranges displays of books and other library materials.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with the public in a retail, food service, or education environment.

Compensation:

$14.00 per hour.
