Description

Reporting to the Head of Public Services, the Reference Librarian provides reference, outreach, and support services to the University of Arkansas School of Law’s students, faculty, and staff as well as alumni, the local bar, and other users throughout the State of Arkansas. 

Key responsibilities include: providing exceptional reference service to students, faculty, staff, and the public on multiple reference shifts each week, assisting with in-depth research requests from faculty, as well as participating in the law library’s teaching activities including the delivery of guest lectures, workshops, library tours, and the development of for-credit courses. Additionally, the Reference Librarian is responsible for developing, updating and maintaining research guides and other online instructional materials, participating in collection development activities including the selection of monographs and evaluation of databases and other resources, and contributing to patron-focused outreach activities to build awareness of the library’s resources and services. The Reference Librarian will also be contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of department policies and projects, engaging in scholarship, service, and professional development activities at the local, regional, and national levels, and participating in faculty governance and serving as a member of library, law school, and university committees.



Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school conferred by the start of employment
M.L.S. or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited library school conferred by the start of employment
Demonstrated enthusiasm for working closely with students and faculty
Demonstrated expertise in legal research
Demonstrated strong service orientation and communication skills
Demonstrated ability and desire to stay abreast of emerging technologies
Demonstrated ability to manage projects and competing priorities
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively
 

Preferred Qualifications:

One to three years experience providing reference service or research assistance in an academic law library
Record of scholarship or professional service relevant to law librarianship
Teaching experience
Law practice experience
