Description The Paul Meek Library at the University of Tennessee at Martin is accepting applications for a Public Services Evening Associate. Primary duties include providing services to library users; performing circulation transaction functions; opening and/or closing the library; assisting with the location of materials; miscellaneous clerical, technological, and problem-solving activities and projects. This position works primarily afternoons and evenings Sunday through Thursday but may have a varied schedule dependent upon the library and/or university schedule.

Essential Job Functions Circulation duties

  • Provide coverage at the Information Desk, assisting library users, answering the phone, taking messages, and managing general inquiries about the library, its programs and services
  • Perform all Circulation duties including checking materials in and out, and using the automated catalog and associated software programs
  • Issue library cards
  • Assist students with basic searches for resources such as articles, books, and e-books
  • Shelve materials
  • Triage information inquiries and refer in-depth reference and research questions to librarians as needed
  • Demonstrate basic use of equipment
  • Assist with the supervision, work assignments, and training of student assistants
  • Collect and inspect student assistant timesheets
  • Monitor and maintain schedule of student-employee budgeted hoursAdministrative Support
  • Assist with collection, analysis, and reporting of data and statistics related to library programs and services including space usage, materials circulation, and other data points as needed
  • Maintain calendar of library hours for the year
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, including working cooperatively in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities
  • Ability to operate relevant computer systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, electronic databases, e-mail, and internet
  • Ability to use BANNER

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree
  • Experience using a Library System Platform
  • 3-5 years of library-related experience
  • Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification
  • Ability to navigate electronic databases
