The South Plainfield Public Library, serving a friendly and diverse community of 25,000 is looking for an enthusiastic and personable individual to join our public service team. Please note that this is a part time position for evening and weekend hours.

Position: P/T Library Assistant

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing friendly and efficient customer service, both in person and by phone or email

  • Assisting patrons with tasks like locating and checking out materials, placing holds, and paying fees as well as making photocopies, sending faxes and scanning documents

  • Handling basic administrative tasks like checking in materials, issuing library cards, and making room reservations. 

  • Offering computer support using basic software applications, email, and internet browsers

  • Processing computer guest passes and registering patrons for programs and events

  • Organizing materials and ensuring that shelves are kept neat and tidy

Qualifications:

  • Friendly and approachable demeanor

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Basic computer skills are necessary

  • Previous library experience is a preferred, but not required

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus

  • Must be available for weekend and evening hours

Salary is commensurate with experience and meets NJLA minimum guidelines
