The Practice Research Specialist, or 'Business Development Research (BDR) Specialist' works closely with the Marketing & Business Development’s team of research professionals to provide a high level of support for the firm's legal and business research function. This role will collaborate with senior team members to primarily support the antitrust practice. Using a variety of internal and external databases the individual will regularly perform in-depth legal research in the US court system and in jurisdictions around the globe, including the UK and the EU. The individual will help to identify and prepare summaries of legal developments in the antitrust space and will collaborate with MBD colleagues to research potential opportunities and related information about experts and competitors. This position requires intellectual curiosity; creativity; the tenacity to track down needed information; the capacity to synthesize large amounts of data; and the ability to problem-solve with the highest level of attention to detail and accuracy. The Research Specialist should be equally effective collaborating with colleagues and senior staff and working on self-directed projects. 

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: 

  • Provides high quality, thoughtful marketing and business development-related research using internal and external research tools including CourtLink, Lexis, Law360, Bloomberg Law, Westlaw, and Lex Machina, as well as specialized antitrust practice resources. 
  • Composes summaries of legal and industry trends, dossiers on companies and individuals, and competitor insights in support of various business development initiatives. 
  • Attends practice-related and marketing team meetings and coordinates with other team members to support antitrust practice initiatives.
  • Collaborates on marketing-related efforts, including providing research support for events and speaking engagements, rankings and awards submissions, and publications, and coordinating with colleagues across the team and throughout the firm.  
     

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • Minimum of two years of relevant substantive experience required. An ideal candidate will have four to seven years of professional experience, preferably in the legal or professional services industry, or an academic setting focused on antitrust issues. 
  • Demonstrated interest in antitrust/competition issues and in the current litigation and regulatory environment. 
  • Proficient in searching online research databases; prior experience with LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, or other online legal databases strongly preferred.  
  • Must have solid analytical and critical reasoning skills.
  • Must be able to organize, plan and work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and be flexible in responding to shifting demands.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability are critical.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must exhibit a desire to learn, participate and take ownership of workload.
