Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. We are seeking a Post-Masters Library Research Assistant to join our Research, Outreach and Engagement Team in Los Alamos, NM. In this position, you will promote library resources and services, as well as develop and deliver responsive reference, research and instructional support. To be considered, candidates must possess a completed (or in the process of completion) MLIS.

Responsibilities:

  •        Lead library research support, online education courses, specialized training, orientations and workshops
  •        Provide reference support via chat, email or in-person
  •        Create outreach and educational materials, such as video tutorials, LibGuides, website content, blog posts and print materials
  •        Contribute to the Library's mass indexing effort of our technical reports
  •        Assist with team projects that promote communication and open science in the digital age, such as cataloging, processing technical reports, data management, research repository development, ORCiD integration with key research workflows and open access publishing
  •        Contribute to making scientific research and data outputs sharable and reproducible following the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable)

Qualifications:

  •        Master’s degree in library and information science completed within the last 3 years; Candidates in the process of completed their MLIS may be considered
  •        Educational background or experience in a STEM-related discipline; STEM Librarianship preferred
  •        Knowledge of the challenges and opportunities surrounding open science, scholarly publishing and communication in STEM fields
  •        Knowledge of or desire to work with generative artificial intelligence and/or large language models in the research field
