Under the direction of the Supervising Library Assistant for User Services, Performs a variety of circulation and service related functions as well as providing an excellent customer experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Circulation duties including charging/renewing/discharging materials; entering and updating library cards; handling issues with overdues and other account information; and handling money through accepting fees
- Handling and routing system, consortium, and ILL holds
- Technical services assignments to support the processing of library materials
- Following all safety procedures, including procedures for opening and closing the building
- Maintaining order and appearance in the library and the collection as needed
- Prioritizing customer service
- Understanding, following, and promoting established library policy and procedures
- Involvement in professional development and/or community-building opportunities and activities
- Assistance with consistent supervision and training of part-time Library Assistants and Pages
- Emphasizing teamwork and communication within the department for the benefit of library users and the organization as a whole
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
- High School Diploma or possession of an approved High School Equivalency Certificate
- Minimum of one year of experience with library circulation work
- Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions
- Ability to communicate courteously and clearly with customers, staff, and other organizations
- Knowledge of Windows environment, typing and mouse operation, Internet searching, use of email and standard office computer programs
- Competency in the use of relevant technology
- Commitment to deliver excellent customer service
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- The ability to stand, sit, walk, and stoop in provision of library service
- The ability to handle, reach for and carry materials up to 20 lbs.
- Dexterity to operate keyboards and other office equipment
- Visual acuity to read print and computer screens
- Vocal ability to communicate clearly and courteously
- The ability to write clearly and effectively
- Hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
- The ability to travel between libraries
SCHEDULE
Up to 21 hours per week to include daytime hours, two evenings per week and rotating shifts on Saturdays and Sundays.
SALARY : $28.41 per hour
