SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Library Director, performs various clerical and technical services for patrons of the City’s Library. The required hours for this position include Monday and Thursday evenings until 7:00 pm and Saturday mornings.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:  None

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
   Performs circulation desk duties; checks in/out books
   Assists with collection maintenance; catalogues materials; processes materials for circulation; shelves materials
   Processes new patron accounts; collects fines
   Assists patrons by providing reference and reader advisory services; refers reference questions to the appropriate Library staff
   Provides technical assistance to patrons regarding Library technology and resources 
   Assists the Library staff during programming activities as needed
   Supports the relationship between the City of Haslet and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with   citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information
   Performs all other duties as assigned

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
   Principles and practices of public library functions
   Library materials and resources
   Collection maintenance methods and techniques
   Modern office equipment and procedures
   Customer service principles and practices
   Providing effective customer service
   Prioritizing work activities and meeting work deadlines
   Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other City staff and the general public
   Using a personal computer and various software applications 
   Communicating effectively verbally and in writing

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
   High School diploma or equivalent; 
   Two years of customer service experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION: 
   Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License or Texas Identification Card required  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a typical library environment.  While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time.  Physical exertion may be required to lift office supplies and library materials from overhead and from the floor.  Sufficient vision or other powers of observation are essential to permit the employee to read, sort and shelve library materials and maintain patron and cataloging records.  Often times, the employee must move, shelve, and retrieve library materials from high and low settings.   Ability to lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
