Description
The City of Murrieta is accepting applications for the Part-Time Librarian I position to fill two (2) current vacancies for the Murrieta Public Library Divisions - Teen Part-Time Librarian for Adult and Teen Services & Youth Services Part-Time Librarian. The eligibility list established may be used to fill upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to one (1) year.
Adult and Teen Services Librarian PT- develops, facilitates, and provides the full range of community library services, programs, and outreach for adults and teens. The ideal candidate performs various professional librarian duties, including reference services, desk services, reader’s advisory, computer and printing assistance, collection development and maintenance, cataloging, facilitating passive and active programming for adults and teens, conducting outreach to local schools and organizations, and performing related work as required. Other assignments may include assisting with passport services, maintaining Heritage Room and Library of Things collections, and special projects.
Youth Services Librarian PT--develops, facilitates, and provides library services, programs, and outreach for children ages 0-12 and their caregivers. The ideal candidate performs various professional librarian duties, including reference desk services, collection development and maintenance, cataloging, passive and active programming for children and families, and conducting outreach for local schools and organizations. Other assignments may include assisting with the Library of Things Jr. collection, the MPL Seed Library, and special projects.
DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision (I) or direction (II), develops and provides the full range of technical and/or direct library services to the community and performs a variety of professional librarian duties, including development of programs and services for target audiences, reference, collection development and management, and/or cataloging; identifies current community needs and projects future needs; takes initiative to assist in improving library services; and performs related work as required.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
EDUCATION
Librarian I – Equivalent to a master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in library science, AND
EXPERIENCE Librarian I – Experience to be capable of carrying out the full range of duties of a professional librarian. Library experience is highly desirable.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid CA Class C driver's license or other means that would allow for the ability to commute to meetings or trainings
