Position Summary: The Boston Architectural College Library is seeking a part-time Digital Library Assistant to assist the Reference and Digital Initiatives Librarian with ongoing projects. This position is non-exempt, up to 11 hours per week and $20/hour.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Scanning (as well as editing) to create online access to printed materials from our collections with a book scanner
  • Scanning images from journals/monographs using flat-bed scanners
  • Manipulating scanned digital images (adjusting, cropping, and repairing) in Adobe Photoshop
  • Participate in researching images using library databases
  • Assist with cataloging images using FileMaker
  • Manage images within JSTOR/Artstor
  • Assist with creating or adding information to library research guides
  • Detailed work checking records, data entry, and organizing image files and paperwork

Qualifications

Earned Bachelor degree from an accredited institution required. Enrollment in a master’s degree program preferred (such as Library Science or History of Art & Architecture)

Requirements

  • Interest in art and/or architectural history preferred
  • Basic to intermediate skills using Adobe Photoshop
  • Research skills
  • Attention to detail and highly organized
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Interest and/or background in photography is helpful but not a necessity
  • Library experience is helpful
  • Interest in working with content from special collections
  • Interest in cataloging images
  • Able to overlap work schedule with the Reference and Digital Initiatives Librarian’s schedule
  • Able to commit to a consistent schedule
  • Enjoy working as a part of a small team
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
