Part Time Children's Library Assistant

The Upper Saddle River Library is seeking a creative, personable, organized, and adaptable individual to assist our Children’s Librarian and provide additional circulation desk coverage. The Children’s Library Assistant reports to the Children’s Librarian. 

Children’s Assistant Responsibilities:

• Assist the Children’s Librarian with planning and coordinating programming for children and families.
• Develop and lead a weekly storytime.
• Supervise and run simple children’s programs, such as crafts.
• Help maintain the Children’s area by making sure that collections, toys, and furniture are orderly and well-kept.
• Aid children and caregivers with locating materials, browsing book lists, reader’s advisory, and other simple reference questions.
• Create reading lists or book displays.
• Assist the Children’s Librarian with other tasks as needed.

Circulation Assistant Responsibilities:

• Conduct opening and closing library procedures
• Conduct circulation duties including checking materials in and out, processing holds, readying materials for transit, etc.
• Assist patrons at the circulation desk, over the phone, and around the library 
• Assist patrons with technology and digital services
• Conduct additional circulation tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

• Excellent customer service skills.
• Experience with and/or interest in youth services.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency with technology.
• Strong organizational, communication, and writing skills.
• Sense of humor.
• Experience working in a BCCLS library preferred.
• College degree. MLIS graduate or student preferred. 

Schedule:

• Monday 1:00pm to 5:00pm
• Tuesday 1:00pm to 5:00pm. 
• Wednesday from 9:00am to 1:00pm
• Thursday 9:00am to 1:00pm
• Saturday 10:00am to 2:00pm and Sunday 1:00pm to 5:00pm on a rotating schedule 
• Some additional coverage as needed.

**Salary: **$20.00 / hour
