Job Number: R0005538 The Metadata Specialist ensures complete and accurate maintenance of the online catalog system, including edits, additions, and withdrawals. The Metadata Specialist is responsible for the processing of print and electronic materials, cataloging in Connexion Client, and the use of Excel and other applications to track progress and organize electronic resource workflows properly. The Metadata Specialist will work independently and will demonstrate good judgment in applying cataloging standards to the description, editing, and creation of bibliographic records.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks.
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.Metadata Specialist I
  • Using Connexion Client, search for matching bibliographic records: edit records, create summaries and tables of contents, and add cutters to call and collection notes.
  • Catalog priority purchases, electronic requests, and print requests.
  • Able to perform the following tasks:
    • Update master records with missing content information or vendor resource links;
    • Check authority headings;
    • Check subject headings for appropriateness;
    • Set library holdings on records; and
    • Import records into Alma using proper import profile.
  • Consistently display excellent customer service when contacting library customers.
  • Remove holdings pertaining to withdrawn records and remove records, holdings, items, or portfolios in Alma.
  • Compare collection title lists to vendor websites, update collection title lists with added or removed titles, and troubleshoot discrepancies between collection title lists and Alma search results.QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled setting. It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate. The working environment also includes the facilitation of occasional outdoor events.

Driving Requirements

Use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
