Description

Reporting to the Director of Library Services, the Medical Librarian will partner with students, faculty, and staff to advance teaching, learning, and research. Through hands-on instruction, personalized research support, and a commitment to evidence-based practice, you’ll play an integral role in preparing future healthcare leaders to make a meaningful impact on the communities we serve.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop strong working relationship with faculty and staff in the College of Medicine
  • Design a program of library instruction and research services that integrates into the developing curriculum of the College of Medicine
  • Design and deliver in-person and online instruction sessions and workshops
  • Provide research consultations and citation assistance
  • Create and maintain point-of-need materials, training videos, and online research guides
  • Consult with faculty for in-depth literature reviews, systematic reviews, and other research activities
  • Participate in collection development activities and coordinated initiatives to improve access to library resources and services
  • Assess and coordinate campus online and in-person reference activities; provide training for library staff and support for the campus service desk as needed
  • Collaborate with colleagues across all three campus libraries on projects related to annual goals and other campus initiatives
  • Maintain knowledge of academic health science librarianship and related fields through reading professional literature and attending funded professional development activities and continuing education opportunities
  • Participate in campus and university committees, services and activities as requested including as an ex-officio member of the College of Medicine’s curriculum committee
  • Assist with service desk coverage, which may include occasional evening hours and remote weekend hours on a rotating basis with other librarians
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Master’s in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited program
  • Experience providing instruction and/or research support to students and faculty
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
