Are you a creative, hands-on leader with a passion for technology? Does the idea of helping customers with Makerspace technology sound like a good time? Are you enthusiastic about building relationships, connecting with patrons, and developing staff? 

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of our Makerspaces. This role involves fostering a creative and collaborative environment, developing a suite of makerspace and DIY-based programming, providing technical support, and ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for staff and patrons. In this role you will:

  • Provide professional friendly service to patrons and colleagues
  • Effectively implement and manage change
  • Understand library policies and procedures and demonstrate a commitment to the library’s strategic plan
  • Develop and foster relationships with co-workers and community/ business partners
  • Determine instructional methods and facilitate training for one-on-one instruction, group classes, demonstrations, and workshops 
  • Collaborate with peers, staff, and community partners to develop makerspace programs and events
  • Create and promote a diverse range of activities to attract and engage makers of all skill levels, ages, and backgrounds
  • Supervise and train makerspace staff

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and report equipment problems
  • Maintain accurate records, collect statistics, tracks performance measures and prepare reports related to makerspace 
  • Proficiency with computer applications 
  • Clean and maintain appearance of public and work areas and keep floors free of obstacles
  • Perform other duties as assigned

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Engineering, Education, Art/Design or Business or relevant experience

  • 2 years of management/supervisory experience

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  •  Exercise appropriate judgement, discretion, and independent decision-making 

  • Show knowledge of a wide range of tools and equipment commonly found in makerspaces including 3D printers, vinyl cutters, sewing machines, laser cutters, etc.  

  • Experience using standard office equipment, software, and tools 

  • Experience working in the public sector, library experience preferred

  • Multi- branch experience preferred 

  • Project management skills and budgeting experience are a plus

  • Spanish language skills, preferred

Working Conditions/Physical Requirement:

  • Lift and move objects weighing up to 20lbs

  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time

  • Able to work evenings and weekends
