Job SummaryReporting to the Library Manager, the Library Specialist is responsible for providing circulation support services within the campus library.

Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Performance Requirements*

  • Performs library work of a moderately complex nature
  • Provides circulation services including organization of library materials
  • Maintains circulation records and prepares reports as necessary
  • Organizes reserve items
  • Answers moderately complex questions, refers questions to a librarian, when appropriate
  • Locates materials including databases and electronic resources for students and faculty
  • Provides check in and checkout services as well as properly shelving library materials
  • Effectively uses an automated circulation system
  • Develops an extensive working knowledge of library services, policies and practices; and ensures compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and procedures
  • Communicates library services, policies and practices to students, faculty and staff
  • Performs advanced library operational skills
  • Manages technical matters and human relations issues
  • Maintains operational reports and makes reports as requestedService Excellence
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the CollegeSupervision

Works under the general supervision of the Library Manager

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or sixty (60) college hours completed and two (2) years' working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements; or equivalent combination of education and working experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year's working experience at a college/university related to the Essential Performance Requirements
  • At least one (1) year's working experience in a library
  • At least one (1) year's working experience providing frontline customer service

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of library policies and procedures
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships
  • Skilled using computerized applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly while exhibiting strong attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to enthusiastically communicate with and relate to the community college student
  • Ability to work with little supervision and apply judgment in evaluating alternatives

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Special Instructions SummaryThis is a part-time position, with a maximum of 19.5 hrs. per week. Flexibility is required as part-time work schedules may vary based on individual campus/departmental needs including evenings and weekends.

Typical office hours for this position are as follows: Monday - Wednesday 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm, Thursday 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm, Saturday 9:30 am - 4:00 pm.
