Job Summary Provides customer service and technical support to students, staff and faculty at the library public service and student help desk. Facilitates the borrowing and lending of materials within resource sharing. Assists the Dean in organizing, directing, and supervising the activities of student employees. Responds to a wide variety of user needs ranging from providing research assistance to billing and mediating charges. Opens and closes the library and, secures library facilities. Runs reports and assists in monitoring budgets. Contributes to department and program planning, goal setting, and performance.

Essential Duties:

  1. Provides customer service to students, faculty, staff and community members using the library.
  2. Performs all duties necessary to open, close, and secure the library facility.
  3. Performs the daily check-in, processing, and filing of the circulating and course reserve collection.
  4. Provides information and assistance in the use of student printing system, photocopy equipment, lab computers, electronic equipment, and staff office equipment; contacts internal or external sources for maintenance as needed.
  5. Responds to public service situations in the library with minimum guidance and direction. Works independently and takes initiative to ensure that the library runs smoothly and patrons are supported.
  6. Coordinates the resource sharing process. Submits and responds to user requests for resource sharing utilizing the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) and regional database. Solves problems, requests loan extensions, bills and mediates charges for patrons of a large multi-state consortium of libraries through a collective database. Develops and maintains partnerships with resource sharing departments throughout the nation to meet the educational needs of library patrons.
  7. Performs initial search of appropriate websites and databases to verify and locate resources before initiating a formal borrowing request. Creates and submits specialized requests when materials cannot be located through the web or subscription databases. Receives and transmits requests; uses integrated library software to track materials.
  8. Supports quality and copyright control for resource sharing transactions; performs daily maintenance of various resource sharing software applications; updates resource sharing records using consortial software. Creates and manages resource sharing statistics and related reports using the library's integrated system and other software.
  9. Assists in the training and coordination of federal work study student employees in public services and the student help desk. Assists in maintaining and editing training materials for staff and students.
  10. Assists in resolving student account issues and refers to appropriate campus resources.
  11. Organizes and maintains departmental electronic files and shared drives. Runs reports on program data and student information.
  12. Ensures all policies are followed and maintains strict confidentiality of patron records, student records, and other personal information related to areas of responsibility.Additional Duties:
  13. Assists the Dean with library program development and planning.
  14. Assists with the marketing and promotion of library services.
  15. Schedules meetings and rooms, prepares meeting agendas, and takes notes during library meetings.
  16. Develops, reviews, and recommends office policies and procedures. Prepares procedural manuals, forms, and other related materials.
  17. May attend professional meetings, workshops or classes in areas of responsibility.
  18. Participates in college wide committees and councils.
  19. Performs all other related duties as assigned.Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Associate's degree

Experience/Training:

  • Minimum (2) years of relevant library experience
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Intermediate knowledge of library databases, integrated library systems, and internet search techniques
  • Experience working with diverse backgrounds of the college's community, students and employees; demonstrated commitment to promoting access and diversity.At the college's discretion, additional education/experience may be substituted for experience/education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher education

Working Conditions: Work is typically performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a computer terminal. Repetitive hand and wrist motion for data-entry and keyboarding functions. Occasional strain to the eyes while working with a computer terminal. Frequent interruption or change in workflow is expected. Occasional exposure to difficult or potentially dangerous situations and/or customers especially when working as the in-charge person.

Salary: Initial salary placement will be based on years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Handbook or Collective Bargaining Agreement.
