Library Director

The Waterford Public Library Board of Trustees seeks a Library Director to begin January 2, 2025. We are looking for a leader who will bring fresh perspectives while maintaining strong operational oversight.

About Us: We are a tax-supported school district library serving a chartered population of 5,945, with an operating budget of $354,000 for 2025. It is important to note that the Waterford Library operates with a small staff. As such, this position is not office-bound. The ideal candidate must be willing to actively participate in every aspect of library operations. We seek a hands-on leader who can effectively balance administrative duties with direct involvement in day-to-day library functions.

The Director will:

• Develop and implement strategic initiatives
• Manage budget and resources
• Lead and develop staff
• Work directly with patrons and provide front-line services
• Partner with community organizations
• Ensure compliance with regulations
• Work with the Board of Trustees to achieve library goals

We seek a candidate who:

• Values both innovation and attention to detail
• Can manage administrative duties while participating in daily operations
• Will bring new ideas to library services and programs
• Works well independently

Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Librarianship (MLS) from an ALA-accredited institution or recognized by the New York State Education Department. Eligibility for a New York State Public Librarian’s Professional certificate at the time of application. Possession of certificate at the time of appointment.

Compensation: Salary range: $55,000-$65,000, negotiable based on experience. Benefits package includes health insurance, paid vacation, sick, and personal time, paid holidays, and NYS Retirement

This is a provisional appointment pending civil service qualification.
