Director of Evaluation

The Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences (NUCATS) Institute at the Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a Director of Evaluation to oversee and carry out the evaluation and continuous improvement activities of NUCATS as part of the CTSA grant awarded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) at the NIH. This individual will be responsible for and lead NUCATS’ evaluation and continuous improvement activities, including design, development, and implementation of the NUCATS evaluation plan; metrics, data collection, and reporting activities; and coordination of collaborative activities and relationships to accomplish NUCATS’ evaluation goals. This individual will work collaboratively to communicate the work and impact of NUCATS through reports, visualizations, and dashboards and will collaborate with Institute leadership on data-driven strategic management of NUCATS. This individual will ensure timely reporting and data for NCATS and the CTSA Program, the NUCATS leadership and Steering Committee, External Advisory Committee (EAC), and Internal Advisory Committee (IAC). The primary duties will entail leading large cross-functional teams to define metrics, gather data, and deliver results in specific time frames. This position will be part of a larger evaluation core within the library that is available to Feinberg researchers on large grant projects.

POSITION REPORTS TO: Director, Galter Library and Executive Director, NUCATS Institute

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Evaluation
  • Lead ongoing tracking and evaluation activities of the NUCATS Institute, including preparation of reports and management of evaluation priorities and workflows.
  • Coordinate/collaborate to design data collection plans, dashboards, and other reports.
  • Standardize evaluation metrics and other methods of data collection designed to measure research impact.
  • Monitor objectives of the evaluation and continuous improvement plan.
  • Identify, develop, and implement key metrics to drive continuous improvement efforts. Assist with NUCATS process improvement initiatives resulting in metric driven sustainable, high impact change.
  • Apply rigorous analytical skills and persuasive leadership skills to evaluation and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Anticipate requirements and emerging opportunities for the CTSA and work with the leadership team to develop short-term and long-term strategic plans addressing services and resources.

Project Management
  • Manage projects to effectively and efficiently provide services.
  • Oversee data collection, management, and analysis and provide timely and accurate reports that clearly reflect the programs’ performance and key issues.
  • Provide best practice evaluation strategies and recommendations for Feinberg researchers; assist in writing evaluation components in grants.

Collaboration
  • Work with NUCATS faculty, staff, and programs to achieve the goals of NUCATS evaluation.
  • Collaborate with other Feinberg researchers on evaluation, process improvement, and metrics for large grants (U, P, etc.).
  • Contribute to collaborative activities with CTSA consortium evaluators, including monthly virtual consortium evaluator meetings, collaborative work groups, presentations, and publications.
  • Participate in scholarly societies, attend academic conferences, and represent NUCATS in relevant academic and CTSA consortium activities at the local and national level.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject area.
  • 5 years of relevant evaluation, process improvement, and/or strategic planning experience.
  • High level of proven team leadership and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and execute multiple engagements simultaneously.
  • Facilitation / presentation skills, proven software competencies (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and demonstrated ability to learn new technology tools/skills.
  • Professional experience in an academic health sciences library, health care/biomedical environment, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse population of faculty/staff, students, and colleagues.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong ability to collaborate across groups.
  • Must work well in a team-oriented environment and collaborate closely with others.
  • Well-organized with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to interact well with program participants: investigators, administrators, community partners.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in leading teams in collaborative, strategic, and operational planning.
  • Demonstrated competence in evaluation program plan design, implementation, and evaluation.
