Description

Performs responsible professional work in the public library system. Includes coordination of full range of reference services and shared responsibility for Library technologies and digital services. Responsible for limited supervision over full-time and part-time personnel; manages a team of volunteers. Assumes oversight of daily operation in absence of Library Director.  A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college or university and a minimum of 5 years related professional experience is required.

This position will require working a flexible work schedule to include some evening and weekend assignments. This position reports to the Library Director.

  •         Provides reference and reader’s advisory for the general public in-person, and remotely using various technologies
  • Maintains excellent relations with the public by handling escalated customer complaints, customer feedback and customer suggestions
  • Works on projects as assigned to develop and teach classes with an emphasis on technology instruction\
  • Assists in maintaining records; prepares reports
  • Evaluates, recommends, implements, and monitors hardware or software for public or for library staff which support digital training
  • Develops and presents library programs, classes, events, and relevant projects with a focus on information literacy and access, database instruction, employment skill development, financial literacy, access to government services, and self-learning opportunities for adults
  •  Shares responsibility for trouble-shooting and operational or software uploading/updates of all Library technologies; shares role of liaison with City IT
  • Shares responsibility for overall functionality of Library technologies and digital services
  • Responsibilities for administrative leadership tasks such as preparation of performance evaluations, coaching, and may assist with recruiting and retention activities
  • Trains library staff on new hardware and software
  • Manages the Library Volunteer Program
  • Serves assigned hours in all public service circulation functions, frontline technical assistance, reader’s advisory, and reference assistance
  • Participates in strategic planning, policy development, and relevant budget proposals
  • Represents Library on PPLC Special Interest Group(s) as assigned
  • Leads special projects and performs additional tasks as assigned


Requirements

  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university
  • A minimum of 5 years related professional experience
  • Preferred: Supervisory experience in a library setting


 General knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of modern library operation; knowledge of library automated systems, software, and their applications and related technologies; general knowledge of full range of customer services and reference/user resources and techniques; ability to collect, analyze, and present data in useful reports; ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment; ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library patrons, coworkers, colleagues, officials, community residents, etc. Demonstrate resourcefulness in staying abreast of trends, patterns, innovation in Library-related operations, services, and facilities and envisioning local and regional application.
