The City of Bartow is looking for a Youth Services Librarian to join our team.

This position requires you to have a Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science and at least one year of experience. Additionally, you will need a valid Florida Driver License and the availability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Joining the City of Bartow you will receive health insurance, pension, holiday pay, and paid time off. The starting salary range will be between $42,637 and $47,064 per year.

Job Summary: In this position you will perform difficult professional work in a section of the public library under general supervision. Provides customer service, reference services, and readers advisory. Assists the public in the use of information resources and technology and participates in collection development. Develops and implements library programs.

Education/Qualifications:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Maintains the collection to include selecting, cataloging, processing, and weeding materials.

• Supervises, manages, and performs circulation desk operations to include financial transactions.

• Provides reference assistance to library users in person, by phone, and online and conducts research as required.

• Assists library users with electronic devices, library databases and digital resources, general technology questions, and software, including Microsoft office products and Internet browsers.

• Plans, implements, and oversees age-appropriate programs for children and/or adults.

• Prepares and teaches technology classes.

• Creates, develops, and manages website content.

• Uses social media to promote and market library services and programs.

• Prepares visually pleasing displays/signage highlighting library materials and programs.

• Participates in the interviewing and selection of new employees.

• Trains library staff.

• Coordinates with agencies and organizations to provide outreach to the community.

• Completes opening and closing procedures.

• Coordinates the volunteer program; schedules and trains volunteers as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of modern library operation.

• Thorough knowledge of reader interest levels.

• Thorough knowledge of all formats of materials for adults, children, and young adults.

• Thorough knowledge of reference, adult, children’s, and other library services.

• Thorough knowledge of electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets.

• Knowledge of library procedures, policies, aims, and services.

• Ability to present the library’s services and programs to community groups and professional organizations.

• Ability to maintain records and statistics and complete accurate reports.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the City of Bartow staff, library staff members, volunteers, and others in the library field at the local, regional, and state levels.

• Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.

• Ability to supervise employees and volunteers in a fair manner.

• Ability to interact with library users courteously, professionally, and efficiently.

• Skills to prepare reports and present ideas clearly and concisely in written and oral forms.
