General Summary:

Plans, teaches, and assesses information literacy instruction sessions across the curriculum in support of general education and departmental programs. Provides research assistance to College and Bryan Medical Center clients; conducts literature searches; creates and maintains online instructional materials to support academic instruction; establishes partnerships and collaborates with faculty and Bryan Medical Center staff to create and deliver instructional programming for students and staff.

Principle Job Functions:

  2. *Cultivates partnerships and collaborates with faculty to plan and deliver instructional programming in classroom and online learning environments in the use of library resources, evidence-based practice, information literacy, and research skills.
  3. *Creates and maintains online instructional materials, such as guides and tutorials, focused on library resources and information literacy skills.
  4. *Provides research assistance to students, faculty, and Bryan Medical Center clients.
  5. *Provides expert literature search services in support of patient care, clinical quality improvement projects, and other research projects.
  6. Collaborates with Bryan Medical Center staff to plan and deliver instructional programming in the use of library resources and research skills for Bryan Medical Center employees.
  7. Manages the Interlibrary Loan service for the College of Health Sciences faculty, students, and staff and Medical Center staff, physicians, and affiliated users.
  8. Collaborates with faculty to coordinate access to print and electronic reserves, including interpreting library and copyright policies, processing reserve materials, and troubleshooting access problems. Stays informed of trends in Reserves policy and processing at peer institutions.
  9. Participates in assessment and continuous improvement of operations and services. Helps shape department goals, plans, and procedures.
  10. Serves as an ex-officio member on college curriculum committees.
  11. As necessitated by staffing needs in the library, this position may be responsible for technical services/access services functions such as acquisitions, collection development, cataloging, database/electronic resource access, and/or serials management.
  12. Serves as library resource in the Library Services Director’s absence.
  13. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  14. Participates in meetings, committees, and department projects as assigned.
  15. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  1. Knowledge of information literacy and instructional design principles.
  2. Knowledge of scholarly communication issues and trends (e.g. open access publishing, open educational resources, copyright).
  3. Knowledge of online learning and library technologies (e.g., citation management programs, video conferencing, presentation tools, learning management systems, or software for tutorial development).
  4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
  5. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a strong service orientation.
  6. Ability to easily network and build relationships across the organization.
  7. Ability to initiate, plan, and organize multiple projects.
  8. Ability to effectively interact with students, faculty, Bryan Medical Center employees, and other patrons from diverse backgrounds.
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  11. Willingness to commit to quality improvement.
  12. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.


Education and Experience:

American Library Association-accredited master’s degree in library science required. Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience as a professional librarian required. Prior experience providing library instruction and research support to faculty and students in an academic, hospital, or health sciences library is preferred.
