Job Summary
Georgia Tech Library seeks a creative, analytical individual with strong commitment to engagement for the position of Intellectual Property (IP) Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Academic Engagement, this position contributes to and supports a culture of entrepreneurship and commercialization at Georgia Tech. This person provides IP programming and outreach for the patent, trademark, tangible property, and licensing needs of the Georgia Tech community. Individuals will plan and provide course-integrated instruction, workshops, asynchronous tutorials, and one-on-one consultations on intellectual property. This position also supports library and campus efforts in connecting to external organizations like the USPTO. The worksite location is Atlanta, GA and onsite.
This is a 12-month faculty position with an effort distribution of 80% librarianship, 10% scholarship, and 10% professional service to the library profession. Up to two (2) years credit for previous professional experience may be given at the time of employment, in which case such credit will be stated in the offer letter. The Georgia Tech Library Faculty may enjoy flexible work schedules, professional development, and a healthy work-life balance. This is not a remote position, but some teleworking hours are supported.
Responsibilities
Provide and improve library services and resources; enrich the research, learning, and scholarship of the Georgia Tech community through the following:
80% Librarianship
Teach intellectual property topics (tangible property, commercialization, trademarks, prior art, data or information literacy, etc.) via workshops, course-integrated instruction, and asynchronous tutorials to undergraduate and graduate students as well as Georgia Tech employees.
Create and lead engaging programming on intellectual property with the commercialization ecosystem at Georgia Tech.
Develop robust partnership with the USPTO to provide in-depth training to the campus community.
Communicate trends in intellectual property to stakeholders and the campus community.
Provide individualized consultations on topics such as prior art searching, trademarks, and market research in either in person or virtual modalities.
Advocate for funding of support tools for IP research, such as Innovation Q, Derwent, ESPACENET, and others.
Work with Academic Engagement team members to update and create departmental workflows and documentation to enable knowledge transfer.
Other duties as assigned.
10% Scholarship and Creative Endeavors
According to expectations for library faculty members, contribute professionally through scholarship and service to the university and external communities.
10% Service
Foster positive relations with faculty, students, and staff and promote the Institute and Library's commitments.
Serve on library and university committees as assigned.

Required Qualifications
This position vacancy will be filled at the rank of Librarian II or Librarian III. The final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Non-tenure Track Academic Faculty ranks as outlined in section 3.2.2 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook (https://www.policylibrary.gatech.edu/faculty-handbook/3.2.2-non-tenure-track-academic-faculty-members-hiring-and-promotion-guidelines).
Librarian II
Appointment to this rank requires an appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited master's degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.
Evidence of scholarship and/or evidence of service to the librarian profession.
5 years of professional experience.
Librarian III
Appointment to this rank requires an appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited master's degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.
A strong record of scholarship and service demonstrating significant contributions to the librarian/archivist profession.
10 years of professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional related degree in area such as Juris Doctorate, Paralegal Studies, or Master of Business Administration.
Experience working in academic, law, or public libraries.
Demonstrated experience and expertise in current and emerging trends in data, software, and computation.
Proposed Salary
This is a benefits-eligible position with a salary range of $75,000 - $95,000 to commensurate with education and experience. Up to two (2) years credit for previous professional experience may be given at the time of employment, in which case such credit will be stated in the offer letter.
