We seek an innovative and dynamic colleague for a 12-month tenure-track library faculty position at the rank of assistant professor. This position has primary responsibility for coordinating the library’s instruction and subject liaison program. This librarian serves as a generalist, working with students and instructors across disciplines in promoting and offering course-integrated, credit-based, and on-demand information literacy instruction. Additionally, this position serves as the library liaison to first year and student success initiatives, and designated academic disciplines to be determined. This position reports to the director of libraries.  

The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative and the ability to thrive in a changing and collaborative environment and will be part of a team that delivers information literacy instruction, research expertise, and excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Commitment to teaching excellence and to the University’s equity, diversity, and inclusivity goals are essential. Starting salary is $56,000. This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment with an anticipated start date in early 2025.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited library and information science program. Degree must be completed by anticipated start date. New professionals are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in information literacy instruction.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of problem-solving and organizational skills.

**Preferred Qualifications **

  • Experience in academic library instruction.

Major areas of responsibility

Instructional Services Coordination

  • Provides direction for the library’s instruction and liaison program.
  • Manages logistics, such as scheduling, recordkeeping, and communication for the instruction program.
  • Coordinates library faculty collaborative efforts to plan, promote, and assess information literacy initiatives.
  • Keeps current with developments in pedagogy and librarianship through professional development, engagement with campus and professional colleagues, and participation in professional organizations.
  • Leads and performs assessment of instruction program, including but not limited to gathering statistics and preparing annual reports.
  • Coordinates the in-person and virtual research consultation services in cooperation with library colleagues.
  • Participates in staffing and support of library service areas, which may include the main desk, makerspace and digital studio.
  • Other duties as assigned by the director of libraries.

  • Teaches information literacy concepts through course-integrated instruction and individual research consultation.
  • Serves as liaison to assigned departments, consulting and collaborating with students, faculty, and staff to meet their information and instructional needs.
  • Serves on appropriate library, campus, and UW System committees.
  • Pursues continued study, scholarly activities, and creative work.
  • Participates in professional and service activities.
  • Contributes to university and library equity, diversity and inclusivity (EDI) goals.
  • Participates in department, library, and university planning.
