Cook Memorial Public Library District is looking for an enthusiastic, innovative, customer service-oriented librarian to join our team. Ideal applicants have a passion for film, television, and fiction; are curious and adaptable to new services and technologies; and dedicated to excellent patron service.  

Hours: 

Full-time (37.5 hours per week), including evening hours and weekend rotation. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves patrons at the Information Desk at both Aspen Drive and Cook Park Library locations. 
  • Assists patrons in the use of electronic products and digital collections. 
  • Participates in the collection development process by selecting and weeding materials in assigned area.     
  • Assists patrons with use of library collections, both print and digital, and subscription databases.  
  • Provides tech assistance with computers, smart devices, and library equipment.  
  • Plans and presents programs to meet the information needs of patrons and promote resources.  
  • Creates relevant printed and digital content for patrons, including blog posts, podcasts, newsletters, and reading lists.   
  • Stays abreast of current trends, issues, and topics by reviewing relevant professional literature and attending conferences and workshops.

Requirements:

  • MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school. 
  • Two years of library experience preferred.  
  • Knowledge of or experience in film and readers’ advisory. Book/film discussion experience preferred.  
  • Dedication to high quality reference practices and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in customer service. 
  • Knowledge of and experience with general print reference materials, databases, and Internet resources. 
  • Computer aptitude, including skills in MS Office software products including MS 365. Proficient with devices such as cell phones and tablets.  
  • Strong organizational and oral/ written communication skills.

Salary & Benefits: 

Starting at $52,000, depending on experience. Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, 457 savings plan, paid sick, vacation, parental leave, and scheduled holidays. Cost of living and merit increases.
