Required Qualifications:Masters degree in geographic information systems (GIS) or a related field with a significant GIS component.

  • At least one year of experience using GIS software for geospatial data analysis and visualization in a professional or educational setting.
  • Proven experience providing GIS services and support.Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools and programming languages (e.g., Power BI, Python, R, SQL, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience conducting workshops or training sessions.
  • Experience providing consultation on data discovery, analysis, management, and visualization.
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical support skills for analysis and visualization tools.
  • Experience with GIS programming and web mapping.Job Description:

Texas State University Libraries Research and Data Services Unit seeks a dynamic Geospatial Specialist to lead and expand geospatial data services and interdisciplinary data science activities across TXST university. The Geospatial Specialist role involves impactful teaching, workshops, and training; managing student employees; and driving collaborative initiatives to enhance the universitys GIS and geospatial program. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Research and Data Services, the successful candidate will build a robust, interdisciplinary service program supporting the GIS and geospatial needs of the TXST research and instructional community.

Job Duties:

  • Stay at the forefront of emerging trends, tools and technology in the geospatial data ecosystem and advise library staff and researchers on their adoption.
  • Collaborate with library colleagues and researchers to identify and implement tools, platforms, and resources for geospatial projects.
  • Develop scalable instructional resources, such as guides and digital learning objects.
  • Support infrastructure, curation, and metadata for discovery and access of the Libraries geospatial digital assets.
  • Lead workshops and develop training programs on geospatial data, tools, and technologies.
  • Provide consultations and collaborate with researchers on GIS, mapping, and geospatial data analysis projects; including assistance with locating, accessing, and managing geospatial data.
  • Foster collaborations with the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, GIS-related groups, and campus GIS users.
  • Oversee the GeoSpace Teaching Lab and supervise 2-3 student employees each semester.
  • Organize events, such as the annual GIS Day, and related programming to promote geospatial initiatives and GIS services to the Texas State University community.Additional Information to Applicants:

Position is based in San Marcos and may travel to the Round Rock Campus Library on occasion. University Libraries will not sponsor or transfer visa sponsorship for this position.
