As a Library Assistant for our Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library you will stand as the direct point of contact for customers, resolving routine questions, or problems, and referring more complex issues when necessary. About the Position In this role you will be based out of the Osprey Library but will substitute in Libraries, Info. Central and Historical Resources to provide direct services to customers and responding in person, by phone and email, to routine questions or requests for assistance. You will support co-workers in daily operations and will remain informed of Libraries and Historical Resources initiatives and programs. For further information on job responsibilities, see below.

Implement standards of service that ensure the prompt and efficient resolution of each inquiry by internal and external customers, delivered with the utmost respect and courtesy. Keep abreast of developments, new trends and innovations in libraries. Provide assistance at service desks and to other sections as needed. Represent Sarasota County to library users. Assist users in locating, selecting and using resources as well as operating library equipment and technology. Sort and shelf materials and maintain an orderly arrangement of materials. Monitor physical condition of materials and recommend repairs or de-selections. Promote the materials collection through displays and other methods for the library collection. Participate in continuing professional development of self and others, to acquire relevant understanding skills. Work with library staff to develop a team oriented workplace.

About the Schedule Work Hours: Part-Time, 20 hours per week. Must be flexible and available 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., based upon business needs. Due to floating between library locations, your schedule will vary and can be discussed during the interview process.

About You Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent education. Valid Florida driver’s license by date of hire. Preferred (“Bonus”) Qualifications:

One year of experience in a clerical or customer service environment, preferably in a library setting. Bilingual in Spanish. Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
