Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Goals: To ensure that the information needs of Galen's student body are met on a day-to-day basis, to uphold Galen's library policies, and to provide necessary library support for library and local campus administration.

Position Responsibilities:

1. Fielding general reference questions and conducting reference interviews.
2. Circulation duties: check-in and check-out of hard-copy materials, and updating of patron information in the integrated library system.
3. Assisting students and faculty in the use of Galen's online research databases.
4. Assisting students in the use and operation of Windows computer workstations, Windows applications, and internet navigation.
5. Monitoring and trouble-shooting computer workstations, networked printer, and other library equipment.
6. Providing guidance to students in finding and using internet resources appropriate for scholarly research.
7. Other duties related to the library not specified here but that may be required as circumstances dictate.

Position Requirements:

Education: Minimum high school diploma or GED; some college preferred

Experience/Skills: Library or information science training desirable; good working knowledge of Windows and the Microsoft Office Suite; flexible, detail-oriented, effective communicator with ability to work as a team player

Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit at a desk for 8 hours at a time, and the ability to reach overhead, bend, and stretch. Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
