Facility & Safety Services Assistant

2 positions: 18 Hours Per Week

Job Summary

The Niles Public Library District is seeking a dedicated and professional Facility & Safety Services Assistant. Under the supervision of the IT & Facility Manager, you will perform janitorial duties and conduct regular building wellness checks for the library, including daily maintenance activities, facility monitoring, and support for building operations.

We are looking to fill the following positions:

**Position 1: **

Every Monday & Tuesday: 4:00 PM - 8:45 PM

Alternating Weekends (1st & 3rd weeks of month): 

  • Friday: 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM

  • Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Sunday: 11:30 AM - 5:00 PM

**Position 2: **

Every Wednesday & Thursday: 4:00 PM - 8:45 PM

Alternating Weekends (2nd & 4th weeks of month): 

  • Friday: 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM
  • Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Sunday: 11:30 AM - 5:00 PM

The Facility & Safety Services Assistant will…

  • Conduct routine circulation of building areas and grounds to ensure order and safety throughout the building.

  • Monitor general building operations and assist the Person-In-Charge with patron complaints, unruly patrons, and escalated incidents or concerns.

  • Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep the Library safe, attractive, and inviting.

  • Clean public and staff restrooms.

  • Assist with ongoing building projects such as painting.

  • Empty trash, dust, and clean floors in designated areas.

  • Perform meeting room setup and turnover

  • Assist in landscape maintenance as needed.  Assist in opening & closing the Library, including locking doors and ensuring all patrons have left the building.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma.

  • Two years progressively responsible experience in maintaining a physical plant preferred.

  • Ability to perform minor mechanical, electrical, and plumbing repairs.

  • Knowledge of physical plant operations and maintenance.

  • Basic computer skills including ability to use Microsoft Outlook for email.

  • Valid Illinois Driver's License with proof of safe driving record and current car insurance.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and transport/move heavier weights on occasion.  Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

**Annual Salary: **Starting wage: $22.06
