Classifications for Executive Director


Target Hourly/Salary Rate: Minimum starting salary $39,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience

Work Schedule: 30 hour exempt position, may require evening and weekend work


Job Summary: Reports directly to the board and provides overall leadership for the library and staff. Supervises approximately 4-6 staff members, oversees volunteers and supports their development and growth. Ensures the provision of effective and high-quality library services. Contributes to library-wide planning, policy-making, goal-setting, and assessment efforts. Demonstrates a commitment to advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) as a foundation for institutional excellence. Collaborates with various stakeholders to achieve library goals. Ensures compliance with relevant library policies and procedures.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Four-year undergraduate degree in any field.
  • Knowledge of a nonprofit organization
  • Library management experience


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Grant writing skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of principles, procedures, regulations, and standards applicable to the job.
  • Understanding of the library’s mission, vision and goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to listen to new ideas and to respond in a timely manner to board, staff, and community.
  • Use of technology, equipment and software typically used in the office environment.
  • Ability to solve problems and workshop solutions with co-workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to establish and maintain a high degree of personal and departmental integrity and openness with board, staff, and community.


Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Master of library science degree (MLS) - preferred
  • MLS degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited school - preferred
  • ALA-accredited MLS degree - preferred
  • Evidence of creativity in problem solving and effective organization and time management competencies.
  • Ability to craft an innovative vision of library services.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse groups and libraries to develop initiatives, programs, and services.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a complex, changing institutional environment.
  • Evidence of oral, written, technological, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Bilingual
