Opportunity Overview The Board of Trustees invites your consideration and application for the position of Executive Director of the Dixon Public Library. Located in north central Illinois, the Library serves over 15,000 residents with books, periodicals, DVD’s, on-line access, and community programming out of a beautiful, turn-of-the century building with a 1970’s addition. With a budget of $750,000 and 12 staff, the Library is well regarded by the community for its part in a proactive and excellence focused municipal government. In collaboration with a 9 member appointed Board, the Executive Director will be responsible for all aspects of Library operations including organizational and team leadership, collection and financial management, compliance, community outreach efforts, and long range planning. This is a full-time exempt position with a salary range of $85,000 to $100,000 based on qualifications and experience. The Library also offers competitive municipal benefits including paid time off, health insurance, and IMRF.

Community Overview Dixon is a historic community located on the banks of the Rock River offering most of what residents need including a vibrant downtown, good schools,  activities for kids,  and impressive arts, culture, and entertainment offerings. Outdoor recreation abounds on the river,  extensive bike trails, and at four State Parks, all within a 20 to 30 minute drive. For those occasional needs that are not met locally,  the Chicago metro area,  Rockford, and the Quad Cities are all available in little more than an hour by expressway on I-88.  Continuing education is found locally at Sauk Valley Community College,  and at Northern Illinois University,  45 minutes to the east.  For more information on life in Dixon, visit http://www.discoverdixon.com  .

Key Skills ● Working knowledge of core library operations and procedures including collection management, digital resources, and customer service ● Expertise in team management and communication with strong decision making and problem solving skills ● patron and community engagement ● Collaboration with Trustees and city colleagues Requirements a. Master’s degree in Library Science or Library Information Science is ideal, but applicants with a Bachelors degree in a relevant field (Business, Education, English, Information Systems, etc. ), and interest in pursuing an advanced degree are encouraged to apply b. Five years of progressively responsible library experience c. Two years of demonstrated successful staff management experience
