Job SummaryThis is a part-time position. The A.C. Buehler Library is seeking an energetic individual to work as a Reference Librarian according to the following schedule during the academic year:

  • Saturdays from 12:00 noon until 5:00 pm. (Occasionally, there will be additional earlier hours requested on Saturdays for special events.)
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm, with reduced summer (between approximately May 20 and August 20), January Term, and spring break hours.Necessary are knowledge of both electronic and traditional reference sources, the ability to troubleshoot computer problems, ability to supervise support staff and student workers, experience teaching information literacy classes, providing tours to interested groups, and assistance with small projects when assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees the library's operations which include reference, circulation, reserves and instructional services.
  • Supervises support staff and student assistants.
  • Answers user questions.
  • Opens and closes the library.

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Library Science or current enrollment with significant progress toward degree completion.
  • Previous library experience.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot computer issues.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a professional manner.

Working Conditions/Physical RequirementsEmployee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
