GENERAL PURPOSE

The Evening Library Assistant-Patron Services helps students, faculty, and employees of Molloy University with borrowing materials and using the resources of the James E. Tobin Library, and performs other tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the Library throughout the day. The ideal candidate has experience working in a patron services/circulation role at an academic institution and is familiar with the Alma integrated library system or a comparable ILS. They are detail oriented, highly organized, able to work independently and as part of a team, and have strong customer service skills for diverse populations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilize Alma to loan and return library materials, and verify patron information.
  • Assist patrons by answering or directing questions pertaining to resources in the JET Library, on the Molloy campus, as well as outside of Molloy.
  • Guide patrons in the use of technology, including printers, scanners, and the self-check kiosk.
  • Perform tasks to prepare the JET Library for closing and to ensure the smooth operation of the Library throughout the day.
  • Participate in projects related to the maintenance of the JET Library's physical collections, such as shelving, shelf-reading, shifting, weeding and displays.
  • Provide support and expertise to student assistants working at the Patron Services Desk.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1 to 3 years of work related experience
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Alma or other ILS

PREFERRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree
  • Jenzabar Software

RESPONSIBILITY FOR PUBLIC CONTACT

  • Daily contact requiring courtesy, discretion, and sound judgment.

SALARY INFORMATION

When determining the salary offer for a new employee, Molloy considers several key characteristics such as job knowledge, skills, and experience as well as internal and external equity. The hiring hourly rate for this position is $20.00. This hourly rate represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of compensation at the time of posting.
