Job Description:

Job Title: Evening Circulation Supervisor

Status: Non-Exempt, Full-time, Academic Year

Wage Grade: 720

Reports to: Head of Circulation

Hours: Sunday 4:30 p.m. - 12:15 a.m.; Monday - Thursday 3:30 p.m. - 12:15 a.m.; Hours will vary during January term)

**Position Overview:**The evening circulation supervisor manages the Thomas Tredway Library's circulation department during late afternoon and evening hours by overseeing central library functions and supervising student employees. Working within a dynamic and innovative environment, the evening circulation supervisor plays a key role in maintaining the library's positive, welcoming presence on campus and inspiring students to be engaged participants in the work of the library.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, evaluate, and train the circulation department's student supervisors and evening student employees.
  • Mentor student employees as they develop professional skills and establish an awareness of office workplace protocols.
  • Provide experiential learning opportunities for students considering library careers.
  • Partner with library team members (librarians, staff, and student employees) to develop, coordinate, instruct, and evaluate circulation training for new student employees.
  • Maintain student employment/training manual and learning management system (Moodle) site.
  • Serve as back-up for student scheduling and payroll approval.
  • Manage all circulation department functions during the library's evening hours, including customer service, supervision of student employees, and oversight of library closing protocols.
  • Work with student employees and the head of circulation to maintain an organized and attractive space at the circulation department that is welcoming for all patrons.
  • Process print and electronic course reserves in collaboration with the head of circulation.
  • Maintain the physical library collection, including coordination of stacks maintenance, with assistance from the head of circulation, other library staff, and student employees.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of the library's integrated library system (ILS) and the automated fulfillment network in order to efficiently and effectively address patrons' needs.
  • Troubleshoot copier and printer problems, and coordinate maintenance with the head of circulation and Office Machine Consultants personnel.
  • Address and administer the policies of Tredway Library and its consortial partners.
  • Field patrons' questions and comments and forward them to the head of circulation as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with librarians, contribute content to library social media.
  • Oversee student billing.
  • Oversee and process monetary transactions such as fines, fees, and billings.
  • Assist with patron database maintenance.
  • Maintain library circulation records, run/update reports, and provide data to interested parties.
  • Assist with maintenance of the library's website.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Two-year degree or equivalent experience required; four-year degree preferred

Skills and Experience:

  • 1-3 years of demonstrated experience providing supervision in a library circulation department or similar work environment.
  • Excellent technological skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and Google Suite, and ability to learn web and ILS functions.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, prioritize work, and meet deadlines with a high degree of detail orientation and accuracy.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of college students, as well as library colleagues, faculty, staff, administrators, and public patrons.
  • Time management skills to handle multiple priorities in an environment of frequent interruptions.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 25 pounds on a frequent basis. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, read, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time. Must be able to use a computer to accomplish a variety of job tasks.
