About the Role:

As an ESL/Literacy Advisor, you will play a vital role in assisting adult learners and coordinating a dedicated team of volunteers. Your work will promote literacy and language skills, helping individuals navigate daily life in the U.S. You’ll conduct language assessments, lead tutoring sessions, and facilitate programs that support English language learners in our community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess adult learners’ language skills through interviews and structured tests.
  • Conduct individual and group tutoring on English language use, U.S. culture, and citizenship.
  • Support volunteers in delivering literacy services.
  • Lead programs that enhance language learning.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, reporting, and managing educational software.
  • Provide guidance on available library and community resources.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Teaching/tutoring experience or a demonstrated ability to support literacy and language learners.
  • Skills & Qualities:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Empathy and cultural awareness.
    • Familiarity with Adult Basic Education (ABE) or working with adult English Language Learners (ELL) is a plus.
    • Experience living or working outside the U.S. is a plus.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in TESOL, English, Linguistics, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Hours and Scheduling: Part-time, average of 20 hours per week. Weekday evening availability and two Saturdays per month are required.
