JOB SUMMARY:

The position will supervise all other library positions and report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Asset taxonomy and metadata. Guidelines for file naming, adding metadata including licensing and usage rights.
  • Asset auditing to adhere to established governance standards.
  • Aggregation of digital content and metadata, including digital object metadata and descriptive records.
  • Collaboration with the Digital Teaching and Learning Center for the usage and promotion of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Cengage Unlimited
  • Compliance with licensing agreements, for electronic and print materials, including restrictions of use and copyright laws.
  • Collaboration with students, faculty, and other library users seeking digital resources, e-journals, e-books, digital archives, and other digital materials, and print materials.
  • Presentation of research or innovative/unique information at conferences, workshops, seminars, and/or other professional/scholarly meetings.
  • Monthly, annual, and special reports, with special attention to reports pertinent to accreditation.
  • Preparation and maintenance of library budget.
  • Participation in selection of library staff members.
  • Planning of staff development for professional growth and improved services.
  • Oversight of materials, circulation activities, and collection maintenance.
  • Planning for library effectiveness and assessment.
  • Manage and grow the physical and digital archives**.**
  • Implementation of library instruction, and other instructional sessions in collaboration with the Director of the Writing Center.
  • Collaboration with the Digital Teaching and Learning Center on technology and community initiatives, and curriculum development.
  • Other duties as assigned that serve the mission of the library.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • ALA-accredited M.L.S./M.L.I.S. degree or its equivalent
  • Three or more (3+) years’ experience in academic libraries (or five or more [5+] years of combined academic and public library experience)
  • Two or more (2+) years’ experience in library management
  • Personnel management, library management, and budget preparation skills.
  • Knowledge of best practices and emerging trends in academic libraries and technical services, particularly in HBCU libraries
  • Fluency with various forms of technology.
  • Ability to research, edit, evaluate, upgrade, and manipulate the content of library systems and databases.
  • Familiarity with Open Educational Resources (OER).
  • Knowledge of current digitization and metadata standards and best practices.
  • Commitment to the promotion of equality and justice.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in assessment and accreditation.
