Digital Services Specialist

ABOUT US: The Barrington Area Library is a busy, friendly place that supports lifelong, active learning, and an appreciation for creativity and innovation. Our newly renovated, state-of-the-art MakerLab, unveiled in 2024, offers a cutting-edge environment for hands-on learning and creative exploration. With the latest technology, including 3D printers, laser cutters, sublimation printing, and digital design tools, the MakerLab empowers customers to bring their ideas to life and dive into the world of innovation.

JOB SUMMARY:

• Act as primary point of contact for users of the Library’s digital services and resources.
• Provide technical guidance to customers and staff on a variety of applications, software, and equipment, such as 3D printers, sublimation printer, laser cutter, and vinyl cutting machine.
• Present and develop original programs featuring MakerLab and Studio equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues for equipment in digital services spaces, or report issues for service and maintenance.
• Address technology questions related to e-books, digital media production, and personal devices within the scope of the Library’s services.
• Evaluate and suggest technology offerings and make recommendations for continual enhancements.
• Provide digital services training to staff as needed.
• Serve on planning committees and attend meetings and outreach activities as requested.
• Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma and at least one year of related work experience.
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to guide and instruct customers and staff on new technologies, Makerspace tools, and projects.
• Familiarity with Makerspace technology (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters, etc.) and enthusiasm for hands-on learning and creative exploration.
• Familiarity with e-content platforms such as Libby and Hoopla, and proficiency with MS Office.
• Enjoyment in collaborating, instructing, and problem-solving with customers and coworkers.

LOCATION: 505 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington, IL

SCHEDULING: This is a full-time position averaging 37.5 hours per week. Weekly schedule is generally four weekdays (9 AM - 5 PM) plus one evening shift (1 - 9 PM); in addition, this employee will work one Saturday (9 AM - 5 PM) per month. There is some flexibility based on customer appointments and department needs.

PAY & BENEFITS: This is an hourly position (non-exempt) with a pay range of $23.00 - $26.00 per hour. Skills, experience, and internal equity will determine offer made within this range. Benefits for this position include:
