Northeastern University seeks to hire a full-time Digital Projects Archivist to support multiple projects housed within the newly reconfigured Humanities Center within the College of Social Sciences and Humanities. Some of the projects affiliated with the Humanities Center include the Digital Archive of Indigenous Language Persistence, the Digital Transgender Archive, the Early Black Boston Digital Almanac, the Early Caribbean Digital Archive, the Homosaurus, and Mapping Black London, as well as other projects. These projects share commitments to broadening and diversifying our knowledge of the past and present, including the lives of individuals and communities who are often left out of official archives. These projects invite creative engagement with archival resources and digital methods.

This is a two-year, full-time, benefits-eligible position, with the potential of extension depending on funding.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Library Science, advanced degree in a related area, or commensurate experience 
  • Extensive knowledge of digital archives, archival management, and emerging digital curation practices 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digitization workflows and standards 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of metadata and archival description standards 
  • Working knowledge of intellectual property, copyright, and privacy issues related to digital collections 
  • Working knowledge of preservation, sustainability, and long term access, including use of DOIs 
  • Ability to work collaboratively across projects as well as with minimal supervision 
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral communication skills 
  • 1-4 years experience working with digital archives or libraries preferred 
  • Preferred experience supervising student teams 
  • Preferred experience with project management
