Dean of Libraries

 

New York Institute of Technology (New York Tech) invites applications and nominations for an accomplished and visionary leader to serve as Dean of Libraries. Reporting to the Provost & Executive Vice President, this position is a senior member of the academic affairs administrative team and a member of the Dean's Council. The Dean of Libraries will be instrumental in re-envisioning the libraries at New York Tech, aligning them with the institution's unique identity as a multi-campus polytechnic that fosters doers, makers, innovators, and healers. This individual will have a proven track record of driving creative approaches, implementing new ideas, and leading institutional change. The Dean of Libraries will provide strategic leadership, effectively prioritize initiatives, and manage resources to achieve New York Tech‘s goal of becoming a more robust research institution. The dean may be located on either the Long Island or New York City (NYC) campuses.

 

The successful candidate for the dean of libraries opportunity at New York Tech Libraries will be a key player in the institution's transformation. This role involves providing strategic direction, guiding the implementation of the library's strategic plan, and championing a future-facing library that serves as a vibrant intellectual hub. The leader will collaborate with senior administration, faculty, and staff to set the strategic, operational, and financial direction for New York Tech and NYIT-COM Libraries. The ability to foster interdisciplinary collaborations, integrate library resources into the curriculum, and meet the scholarly needs of students and faculty as the institution evolves into a research-focused university is crucial.

 

Qualifications

  •        A history of leading with transparency and a shared-governance mindset and consensus-building.
  •        Experience leading innovative efforts to integrate the appropriate application of technology and information literacy to support teaching, life-long learning, and scholarship.
  •        Record of accomplishment and administrative experience at a university of a similar size.
  •        Management skills that include a demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with multiple constituencies within and outside of the university.
  •        Experience with student retention planning and implementation strategies.

 

Education

  •        Master of Library Science, Master of Information Science, or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program.
  •        Doctorate relevant to leadership of a university library (e.g., Library Science, Information Science, Higher Education Leadership) preferred.
