Circulation/Technical Services Assistant

This part-time position includes day, evening, and weekend hours in the Circulation/Technical Services Department. Applicants must be able to work either Monday or Thursday evenings and 1-2 weekends a month as a regular part of their schedule.  The rest of the hours are negotiable based on department needs and employee availability.

Primary duties include working as a supervisor at our busy circulation desk including checking materials in and out, accepting payment for bills, assisting patrons with using our self-checks and automated materials handler and working as the departmental person-in-charge in the absence of the Circulation Department and Assistant Department Heads.  This position also includes responsibilities in library technical services including ordering, receiving, and invoicing materials using our integrated library computer system.  This position will also be trained to staff the library’s makerspace.

Ideal candidates will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, dedication to positive patron interactions and providing excellent customer service, be able to work independently, and be able to adapt quickly and easily to change in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with the completion of an LTA certification preferred. Priority will be given to candidates that have previous experience with the SirsiDynix Symphony Workflows Acquisitions module.

This position reports to the Circulation and Technical Services Department Head and starts at $17.11. Benefits include paid vacation time, inclusion in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) and the option to join the library’s dental and vision insurance plans.
